A New Chapter for Julian Nagelsmann: Premier League Bound?
The dust has settled on Euro 2024, and for Germany, it was a tournament to forget. Knocked out earlier than any other host nation in the competition’s history, Die Mannschaft’s performance was a far cry from their usual standard. However, amidst the disappointment, there is a sense of pride and progression, particularly for their manager, Julian Nagelsmann.
Euro 2024: A tournament to forget for Germany
As Christian Falk explained in his exclusive column, “The feeling about the national team was very bad before this tournament, so the main target was that the fans were proud of the national team again. Proud to wear the shirt and to sing the anthem. Over the past few weeks, they were successful in doing that, so everybody’s happy.”
“Of course, we have to acknowledge that the team went out once they faced their first big opponent. At the end, we were the better team against Spain, but their win, I think, was well deserved.”
Despite the disappointment, Nagelsmann’s focus remains on the future, and specifically, World Cup 2026. However, it is clear that he will not be staying on as Germany’s manager after the tournament. Falk revealed that Nagelsmann has a release clause in his contract, which would have been triggered if Germany didn’t progress past the group stage. Fortunately for Nagelsmann, that was not the case, but it is clear that he will be moving on to pastures new after the World Cup.
Nagelsmann’s future lies elsewhere
So, where next for Nagelsmann? The Premier League seems a likely destination, with Falk suggesting that he could make the move after the World Cup. It is worth noting that Nagelsmann has been working hard on his English language skills, often answering questions from foreign journalists in perfect English during Euro 2024. This could be a significant factor in his decision to move to the Premier League.
“I think getting knocked out before the semi-finals would be disappointing. In any case, he will leave for a club team after that. Whether or not he’s successful in America, he won’t stay in the job.”
Real Madrid could also be a potential destination for Nagelsmann, but the Premier League seems the most likely option at this stage. It is a pity that Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp won’t be around to offer any advice or competition to Nagelsmann, but it will be fascinating to see how he adapts to the Premier League environment.
