The 2023/24 Premier League season has come to a close, and for many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, it’s a time for reflection. The Scout’s panel of FPL experts have shared their thoughts on the campaign, revealing where they went wrong and what they’ll do differently next season.
Lee Bonfield, aka FPL Family, adopted a “play what’s in front of you” approach, focusing on short-term gains. However, he acknowledges that this strategy only got him so far. With the changes to the FA Cup next season, Bonfield plans to take a more long-term approach, thinking several Gameweeks ahead.
Pranil Sheth, aka Lateriser12, learned that all decisions in FPL are reversible. If a move doesn’t work out, it’s essential to admit the mistake and correct it quickly. This mindset allows for more risk-taking and a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances.
Utkarsh Dalmia, aka Zophar666, expects the high-scoring trend to continue into the 2024/25 season. As a result, he’ll focus on defenders with attacking potential and prioritize penalty-takers in his team.
Ben Crabtree, aka FC CrabDogg, realized that remembering his own golden rules is crucial. It’s easy to get caught up in the fast-paced nature of FPL, but forgetting fundamental principles can be costly.
Holly Shand learned the importance of long-term planning, particularly with Wildcards and chip management. Her Free Hit in Double Gameweek 34 paid off, and she also successfully deployed her Triple Captain chip.
Nick Harris emphasized the significance of timing Wildcards and chip usage around fixture shifts or injury crises. He noted that top-performing managers often saved their second Wildcard until late in the season.
Gianni Buttice reflected on the importance of appreciating correct decisions, even if they don’t always yield the desired outcome. He regretted not investing in a double Arsenal defense and missing out on Richarlison’s hot streak.
Pras, aka Pras_FPL, separates decision-making from outcome, focusing on the process rather than the result. He aims to reduce his hit count and increase his risk appetite in the future.
Harry Daniels, aka FPL Harry, understands that some outcomes are beyond his control. He focuses on making good decisions and accepting that bad luck can still occur.
Sam Bonfield, aka FPL Family, was loyal to his players, but sometimes held onto them for too long. He plans to be more proactive in his transfers, prioritizing potential gains over team value.
The Premier League has confirmed that the unused trophy arch will be recycled, and the set-up used at the Etihad will be repurposed.
The Premier League has also announced the nominees for the Fan Team of the Season, with two full-backs to be selected from a shortlist of 10 players.
“To not win it is gutting, but we can’t rely on other teams to help us out. We have to look back on ourselves and games where we dropped points. That is ultimately where we’ve lost the league, but we’ll be back.” - Declan Rice
The Gunners are already looking ahead to next season, determined to close the gap to Manchester City.
“We’re really confident as a group, and you see the manager has full control of everything. I’m sure we’ll be stronger in the summer.” - Declan Rice
