Jan Oblak’s Future in Doubt as Atletico Madrid Puts Goalkeeper Up for Sale
The transfer window is about to get a whole lot more interesting, as Atletico Madrid has reportedly put their star goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, up for sale. The Slovenian international has been a stalwart for the LaLiga outfit since 2014, making 441 appearances in all competitions. However, it seems that his time at the Metropolitano Stadium may be coming to an end.
Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak
According to Spanish outlet AS, Oblak will be put “on the market” this summer, as Atletico Madrid looks to make changes to their squad following a disappointing LaLiga campaign. The club currently sits 4th in the table, 20 points behind leaders Real Madrid. One of the main reasons for Oblak’s potential departure is his hefty wage packet, which stands at a whopping £8.56 million per year, or £165,000 per week.
“Oblak has been a target for Premier League clubs for multiple years.”
It’s no secret that Oblak has been a target for Premier League clubs for multiple years. Manchester United were tipped to make a move for him before they signed Andre Onana last summer. However, it seems that Oblak’s preference is to stay in the Premier League, having rejected an offer from Saudi Arabia last summer.

But where could Oblak end up in the Premier League? Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Liverpool all have cemented first-choice goalkeepers, which limits Oblak’s options. However, Chelsea could be a possible destination, as Robert Sanchez has failed to impress since his arrival from Brighton and Hove Albion last summer. Dorde Petrović has done well when filling in for the Spaniard, but the Blues could look for an upgrade on the 24-year-old.
Chelsea’s goalkeeping options
One thing is for sure, Oblak’s potential move to the Premier League will be one of the most talked-about transfers of the summer. Will he find a new home in England, or will he stay put at Atletico Madrid?
