Leicester City’s Promotion Back to the Premier League: A Bittersweet Feeling for Fans
The Foxes are back in the top flight, but not everyone is celebrating. Leicester City’s promotion back to the Premier League was confirmed on Friday night, thanks to Queens Park Rangers’ 4-0 thrashing of Leeds United. While it’s a remarkable achievement, some Leicester fans are not entirely thrilled about the way it happened.

As one fan put it, “Sorry but it’s s*** getting promoted this way. That’s 2013/2014 promotion, 2015/2016 league win and now looking like this season while not at a game. Bulls***.” Another fan tweeted, “That’s what I’ve said mate, the magic of winning the Prem wasn’t as great for me as I wasn’t watching us physically winning it by kicking a ball… I’d rather watch us play Monday and celebrate at full time in our own game…”
It’s understandable that fans would want to experience the thrill of promotion firsthand, rather than having it handed to them on a plate. After all, the journey is often more memorable than the destination.
Leicester City’s promotion
Daniel Farke’s men now have to rely on Ipswich Town faltering if they are to secure automatic promotion. However, despite returning to the Premier League, some Leicester fans are not overly happy.

Speaking after Leeds’ defeat by QPR, Farke said, “Congratulations to QPR for a well-deserved win and Leicester for promotion. Important to speak about this.” He added, “In this game the first 20 minutes was decisive, We didn’t do the basics. QPR used it in an effective way to be 2-0 up. Then we woke up, but a side fighting for relegation in their home stadium will always be difficult to play.”
QPR’s win over Leeds
While Leicester City’s promotion is a remarkable achievement, it’s clear that some fans are still coming to terms with the way it happened. As one fan put it, “The way this season’s gone we just need to get up anyway possible.” Perhaps that’s the most important thing – getting back to the Premier League, no matter how it happens.
