Manchester City Trail in Race to Sign Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri

Manchester City are lagging behind in the pursuit of Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, with Liverpool currently in pole position to secure the Algerian defender’s signature.

Ait-Nouri has been impressive for Wolves this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to make additions to their squad ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, which kicks off in mid-August. The potential exit of Sergio Gomez has created an opening for a left-back during the summer transfer window.

Gvardiol and Ake have occupied the left-back position for Manchester City this season.

Manchester City could look to sign a more traditional left-back, with Real Sociedad and Bayern Munich amongst the clubs interested in signing full-back Gomez. The Spaniard made just four starts for the Blues during the 2023/24 campaign.

Nunes made a late switch to Manchester City last summer.

Wolves and Manchester City did major transfer business last summer, completing a £53 million deal for Matheus Nunes to make a late switch to the Etihad Stadium, following Kevin De Bruyne’s long-term hamstring injury.

Ait-Nouri has been directly involved in two goals in three Emirates FA Cup showings.

The 23-year-old made 33 Premier League appearances for Wolves last season and was also directly involved in two goals in three Emirates FA Cup showings. The Algerian international played 38 games for Gary O’Neil during the campaign, but has reportedly informed Wolves of an intention to leave the Midlands club this summer.

Liverpool are currently in pole position to sign Ait-Nouri.

Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool are all claimed to be ’tracking’ the 23-year-old, although Liverpool are currently reported to be in pole position to land the signature of the Wolves left-back.

The Etihad outfit have also previously been linked with a move for Wolves and Portugal midfielder Pedro Neto.

Neto has been linked with a move to Manchester City.

With the summer transfer window approaching, it remains to be seen whether Manchester City can catch up with Liverpool in the race to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri.
