Newcastle United’s Search for a Striker Takes a Positive Turn
Newcastle United have received a boost in their search for a new striker, as Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now more likely to join the Magpies. This comes as a result of Calvert-Lewin’s reluctance to sign a new contract with the Toffees, making a summer transfer a possibility.

Eddie Howe is keen to add another goalscorer to his squad ahead of the 2024/25 season, especially with rumors of Callum Wilson’s potential departure. If Wilson does leave, Newcastle will be left with only Alexander Isak as their out-and-out striker.

One player who has been linked with replacing Wilson at St James’ Park is Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The 27-year-old is viewed as a player who can improve under Eddie Howe, and with only a year left on his Everton contract, a move to Newcastle is becoming increasingly likely.

According to HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey, Everton are looking for a replacement for Calvert-Lewin, and are considering Armando Broja on loan and Tammy Abraham. However, Bailey believes that Calvert-Lewin is more likely to join Newcastle this summer.
“I suspect that Calvert-Lewin is higher on Eddie Howe’s list than Tammy Abraham,” said Bailey. “Abraham would be the safer choice, but Calvert-Lewin probably has a higher ceiling. We know Eddie Howe likes him, and if I was betting between the two I would go with Calvert-Lewin [to join Newcastle].”
Abraham is also a potential target for Newcastle
Newcastle United will be keeping a close eye on Calvert-Lewin’s situation, as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
