The 2023-24 Premier League season has come to a close, and what a season it has been! From the thrilling title race to the emergence of young stars, we take a look back at the highlights and lowlights of the campaign.
Young Players of the Season
This season, we’ve seen a plethora of young talent burst onto the scene, making a significant impact on their respective teams. One such player is Cole Palmer, who made the switch from Manchester City to Chelsea and has been instrumental in the Blues’ top-half finish. His impressive displays have earned him a reputation as one of the most exciting young players in the league.
Another standout performer has been Jarrad Branthwaite, who has been a rock at the back for Everton. The 21-year-old defender has made 50 interceptions, the most by any player his age or younger, and has even chipped in with a couple of crucial goals.
Michael Olise has been a shining star for Crystal Palace, spearheading their impressive run-in. His ability to play as both a No. 10 and out wide has made him a nightmare for defenders, and his explosive finishing has earned him a reputation as one of the most feared young attackers in the league.
Harvey Elliott has been another bright spark, making a significant impact for Liverpool despite their disappointing season. The 21-year-old has brought width, crossing ability, and industry to the Reds’ attack, and his maturity and composure have been evident in his performances.
Last but not least, Kobbie Mainoo has been a revelation for Manchester United. The 19-year-old midfielder has shown incredible control, vision, and elegance on the ball, drawing comparisons with Luka Modric. His sumptuous equaliser against Liverpool and last-gasp winner against Wolves showcased his ability to make a decisive impact in big games.
Goals of the Season
Of course, no season review would be complete without a nod to some of the most spectacular goals we’ve witnessed. Alejandro Garnacho’s stunning strike against Everton, which left even the player himself bewildered, is a strong contender for goal of the season.
Alexis Mac Allister’s thunderbolt against Fulham was another highlight, while Bernardo Silva’s exquisite flick against Newcastle showcased his exceptional technique. João Pedro’s beautifully crafted goal against Crystal Palace was a testament to his growing reputation as a clinical finisher.
The Title Race
Arsenal’s ultimately unsuccessful title bid was a major talking point this season. Mikel Arteta’s side finished second, but their 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa in April proved to be the turning point in the title race. Despite suffering just five defeats all season, the Gunners came up just short, with Manchester City ultimately claiming their fourth consecutive title.
As we reflect on the season that was, we can’t help but feel a sense of excitement for what’s to come. With the emergence of so many talented young players and the promise of another thrilling title race next season, the future of the Premier League looks brighter than ever.
