The game was the team’s first under new coach Arne Slot, who replaced Jürgen Klopp in the summer. The 45-year-old Dutchman’s starting lineup featured Jota up front, with Darwin Núñez and Cody Gakpo on the bench.
“The team played well, and we’re happy with the win,” said Slot in a post-match interview. “We still have a lot to work on, but this is a great start to the season.”
The first half was slow, with Trent Alexander-Arnold having the first clear chance just before halftime. However, the breakthrough came in the second half, when Jota headed a free ball just wide, and then scored the opener a minute later. Salah then sealed the win with a beautiful finish after a great pass from Dominik Szoboszlai.
