The Premier League: Where Goalkeepers Get Paid
The Premier League is a cash cow, generating a staggering $8.5 billion from media rights sales. Top clubs are selling out stadiums, and the players are reaping the benefits. At the top of the list is Andrés Onana, Manchester United’s star goalkeeper. He takes home a whopping $10.4 million annually, including $4.16 million in performance-based bonuses. In his first full season with United, Onana racked up an impressive nine clean sheets, finishing fifth in the Premier League.

Alisson Becker, Liverpool’s Brazilian sensation, comes in second with a salary of $7.8 million. The 2021 deal that made him the highest-paid goalkeeper in the Premier League at the time has certainly paid off. With four individual awards under his belt, including the 2019 Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper, Alisson is a force to be reckoned with.

Bernd Leno, Fulham’s German goalkeeper, takes the third spot with a salary of $6.76 million. With over $39 million in career earnings, Leno has certainly made a name for himself in the Premier League.
Jordan Pickford, Everton’s star goalkeeper, comes in fourth with a salary of $6.5 million. His 13 clean sheets in the 2023-2024 season were second only to Manchester City’s Ederson.

Tying for fifth place are Alphonse Areola, Emiliano Martinez, and Aaron Ramsdale, each earning $6.24 million. Areola’s $4 million pay raise from his Fulham days is certainly a testament to his skills. Martinez, meanwhile, has won the World Cup with Argentina and was named the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper in 2022. Ramsdale’s journey from League Two to Arsenal is a true rags-to-riches story.
